- The Lakers were ahead three games to
- two in the 1980 NBA Finals. One more win
- over the Philadelphia 76ers and they would
- capture the NBA title. But the LakersΓÇÖ
- superstar center, 7' 2" Kareem Abdul-
- Jabbar, was injured and couldnΓÇÖt start in
- Game 6. Los Angeles made a bold move
- and started Magic Johnson at center. At
- 6'9" and 220 pounds, Magic was big for a
- guard, but he was small compared to
- some of the giants playing center in the
- NBA. The center position is also rough and
- demands special skills, and Magic hadnΓÇÖt
- played a game at center since high school.
- No problem. Magic had a great game. He
- scored 42 points to go along with 15
- rebounds and 7 assists as the Lakers won
- the game and the championship.
